In recent years we have seen a considerable increase in requests from families, entrepreneurs and retirees who wish to move abroad, driven by one important motive: the need for security.

A sense of security is determined by multiple economic and social factors, but also global political stability and comfort in terms of quality of life.

In particular, many people are looking to move to non-European countries. So, we’ve gathered a list of some secure countries outside of the EU to consider in your relocation plan, secure, stable nations in which it is possible to build a new life.

Safe non-EU countries to relocate to:

  1. Paraguay;
  2. Caribbean Islands;
  3. Panama;
  4. Switzerland.

Relocating to Paraguay

Paraguay offers many advantages and a rare opportunity: the ability to obtain citizenship and thus a second passport relatively quickly through two years of temporary residency without the need for an immediate lease + 3 years of permanent residency.

Politically and economically stable for many years, the country’s territorial tax policy (i.e., 0% tax on income earned abroad) also makes Paraguay attractive to foreign entrepreneurs looking to relocate their business.

Paraguay’s capital city is Asunción, also called Distrito Capital: with its more than 500,000 inhabitants, it is the most densely populated area in the entire country. However, as is often the case, it is also the most chaotic and busy.

If you are planning to move to Paraguay, we recommend that you consider a smaller but still convenient location, such as the city of Encarnación, whose full name is Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación de Itapúa, also known as “The Pearl of the South.”

Relocating to a Caribbean island

In addition to being true paradises on Earth in terms of the natural landscape, some of the Caribbean islands we’ve listed below offer an extraordinary possibility: that of acquiring a passport through citizenship by investment or donation.

The most attractive such opportunity involves the purchase of real estate, as such investments are recoverable in the medium term: in fact, real property can be resold after 5 years (on some islands 7 years), without loss of the acquired citizenship.

Here are some non-EU countries to relocate to that offer citizenship by investment:

    • Antigua & Barbuda;
    • Grenada;
    • Dominica;
    • Saint Kitts & Nevis;
    • Saint Lucia;

Relocating to Panama

Is Panama a secure relocation destination?

The answer is yes, and we’ve included it here primarily for its economic and entrepreneurial advantages, given its very low tax burden. In fact, Panama is a real paradise for those who wish to get out of Europe and also pay less in terms of taxes, all while living in a modern and multicultural environment such as the capital, Panama City, which has about 1.4 million residents.

Relocating to Switzerland

Switzerland has always been considered a secure country, both because of its political and social stability and because of its generally neutral stance on difficult international issues. Switzerland also offers services that are of very high quality and streamlined, fast bureaucracy.

Moreover, Switzerland is surrounded by European nations but it is not a member of the European Union, although it has entered into numerous bilateral agreements with the EU, mainly for economic reasons.

In order to relocate to Switzerland, it is necessary to have rather high income, and pay for private health insurance and long-term rent, which can be costly. For example, you can expect to pay about €2,000 per month for an apartment outside the center of Lugano.
